Overview:
CDK1 (Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 1) and Cyclin E1 (Cyclin E) are key components of the cell cycle regulatory machinery. The CDK1/Cyclin E1 complex plays a crucial role in the transition from the G1 phase to the S phase of the cell cycle, regulating the initiation of DNA replication. Cyclin E1 is a cyclin that forms a complex with CDK1, leading to the activation of CDK1 kinase activity. The CDK1/CyclinE1 complex phosphorylates key substrates such as the retinoblastoma protein (Rb). Phosphorylation of Rb leads to the release of E2F transcription factors, promoting the expression of genes required for DNA synthesis and cell cycle progression.
