Overview:
PCTK3 or PCTAIRE protein kinase 3 is a member of the cdc2/cdkx subfamily of the ser/thr family of protein kinases. PCTK3 is thought to play a role in terminally differentiated neurons and it contains an N-terminal extension relative to CDC2 (1). PCTK3 is expressed in a variety of human cell lines and tissues (2). Elevation in the protein levels of PCTAIRE 3 in the temporal cortex of Alzheimer's disease relative to control brains, have been observed. It is proposed that PCTAIRE 3 is a paired helical filaments-associated kinase that modulates tau phosphorylation.
