Overview:
The PAD family of enzymes is responsible for the catalysis of arginine-to-citrulline conversion in target proteins. There are 5 mammalian PAD isoforms (PAD1-4,6) that share ~50% sequence homology. Each PAD enzyme has its own typical subcellular localization, tissue distribution and substrate specificity, although no substrate protein has been found so far for PAD6.
