Overview:

Adaptor-associated kinase 1 (AAK1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase of the NAK kinase. Along with GAK, AAK1 regulates clathrin-mediated endocytosis by phosphorylating the μ subunits of both AP-1 and AP-2 trafficking adaptors. The phosphorylation increases the affinity of AP2 for membranes and induces a conformational change enabling cargo recruitment by this adaptor. AAK1 was also shown to play a positive role in regulating the Notch pathway.
