Overview:
SENP8 (Sentrin-specific protease 8) is a cysteine protease belonging to the sentrin-specific protease family and catalyzes two crucial functions in the NEDD8 pathway. It was found that SENP8 is not a SUMO protease but functions on a small ubiquitin-related protein called NEDD8 (1). SENP8 is involved in the processing of full-length NEDD8 to its mature form and NEDD8 deconjugation from targeted proteins such as cullins or p53 (2).
