Overview:
USP8 (ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase 8) is a member of the ubiquitin-specific processing protease family of proteins and is involved in the regulation of endosomal ubiquitin processes for endosome morphology, cargo sorting and membrane trafficking at the early endosome stage. USP8 deubiquitinates EPS15 and regulates EGFR degradation and MAPK signaling via removing conjugated ubiquitin from EGFR (1). USP8 also interacts with spermatid ESCRT-0 and microtubule structures in mouse species, suggesting that it may be involved in acrosome biogenesis (2).
