Overview:
Mammary serine protease inhibitor (Maspin) is a non-inhibitory tumor suppressor serpin that is encoded by the SERPINB5 gene. Playing an important role in embryonic development in cell adhesion, Maspin has the ability to suppress the growth, invasion, and metastasis of breast and lung tumors. However, Maspin does not exhibit any serine protease inhibitor activity since it does not undergo the conformational transition from stressed to relaxed found in typical serpins. It is expressed in normal breast and prostatic epithelial cells, but downregulated in most breast carcinoma.
Gene Aliases:
Maspin, Peptidase inhibitor 5
Genbank Number:
Storage, Stability and Shipping:
The lyophilized protein is stable for at least one year from date of receipt at -70oC. Upon reconstitution, this cytokine can be stored in working aliquots at 2o - 8oC for one month, or at -20oC for six months, with a carrier protein without detectable loss of activity. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Endotoxin Level:
<1.0 EU/mu;g of recombinant protein as determined by the LAL method
Molecular Weight:
42.3 kDa
Sample Cell Assay Data:
The ED (50) was determined by the dose-dependent proliferation of MDA-MB-468 cells and was found to be <0.05ng/mL.
Purity:
Recombinant Human Maspin (SerpinB5) resolved on a 10% SDS-PAGE gel under reducing conditions and stained with Coomassie Brilliant Blue G-250
